What is Lymphatic Drainage?
The Lymphatic System is the body’s internal cleanser : it acts like the body’s “clean-up crew.” When this system is sluggish from stress, poor sleep, or diet, it needs a push to restore balance.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a form of manual therapy performed by licensed practitioners that stimulates the lymphatic system and helps remove excess fluid, waste, and toxins from the face and neck. MLD uses a gentle, rhythmic massage technique that taps into the parasympathetic nervous system to deeply relax the body, balance hormones, and restore homeostasis. Benefits include increased skin elasticity and visible skin rejuvenation, particularly in the areas of rosacea, acne, puffiness and edema.
How Do Lymphatic Drainage Facials Work?
A lymph drainage facial results in a noticeable fresh, glowing look that lasts for days, and contributes to a reduction in the appearance of wrinkles that has traditionally required invasive surgery in the past to obtain. Through a specially designed protocol of massage movements on small muscles, combined with acupressure techniques on precise pressure points, lymph drainage facials move fluid away from the face and toward the body’s lymph nodes, where it can be filtered and eliminated. This results in reducing under-eye puffiness and facial swelling, improving circulation, nourishing the skin and underlying tissue, and giving the skin (the body’s largest organ) a brighter, more awake appearance.
Why This Course?
This course is designed to teach licensed estheticians and manual therapists both myofascial release and manual lymphatic drainage – first, as individual treatments, and then how to combine the two into one truly effective treatment.
Day 1 begins with a deep dive into anatomy, fascia, ECSM, interstitial fluid, and the lymphatic system. Treatment begins with myofascial release first because this prepares the tissue. Once the restrictions are released and tissue mobility improves, you will then practice the manual techniques of lymph drainage to support fluid movement.
In this 2-day intensive training, you will not just be memorizing a protocol. You will start by learning the science and the fundamentals, because only after you understand the foundation will the techniques now make sense. You will understand why you are doing each step, and thereby be able to put everything together in one comprehensive treatment that your clients will thank you for.
Instructor: Danielle Decker, RN, LMT, Cosmetologist/Esthetician has 18 years of experience across beauty, wellness, healthcare, movement, and recovery. She is a New York State Licensed Massage Therapist, Registered Nurse, licensed cosmetologist/aesthetician, educator, and Family Nurse Practitioner student. Her background spans sports medicine, plastic surgery, emergency medicine, massage therapy, medical aesthetics, and rehabilitation, with experience treating everyone from everyday professionals to high-level athletes. Danielle’s approach is rooted in understanding the whole person and the connection between the body, skin, movement, fascia, recovery, and overall well-being. She is passionate about combining science, hands-on experience, and individualized care to help people feel, move, and function at their best.
